Mike Joy: Everything's bigger in Texas, why should the racing be any different? We welcome you to FOX Sports' live coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series! Tonight, it's the DUCK COMMANDER 500 from Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth! Hi everyone, alongside Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds, I'm Mike Joy. NASCAR is in the hurry-up. There's rain in the forecast. NASCAR has moved the start time up 5 minutes to try and beat the weather. Let's go down trackside for the command.

Track Announcer: Race fans, it's time for the most famous words in motorsports! Please welcome our grand marshal, SI ROBERTSON!

Si Robertson: DRIVERS! START....YOUR....ENGINES!

(43 850 horsepower engines fire up)

Mike Joy: We get a look at our Pepsi starting grid. An all Stewart-Haas front row, Guy Hamdon and Edd. Hoagie Gilligan, Abigail Lincoln are in row 2, Row 3 - Randy Cunningham and Tristan Taylor. Cunningham has yet to win the spring race here, he won the fall race in 2012. Jeremy Johnson and Ed, teammates at Childress Racing, Johnson will go to the rear, he made an engine change. Johnny Test, Nigel Uno round out the top 10. While we take a look at the rest of the starting grid, DW's gonna talk to our 3rd place starter.

DW: I'm gonna try to talk to Hoagie Gilligan. Hoagie Gilligan, it's DW in the FOX booth. You got me?

(IN-RACE REPORTER: Hoagie Gilligan - 2)

Hoagie: Got ya, DW.

DW: Hoagie, you're in the most prolific position tonight. 8 of the last 9 Texas races have been won from a top 5 starting spot. You feel good about the car tonight?

Hoagie: I'd like to think so. Didn't have that good a run in practice....shocked that we're starting 3rd so let's try to capitalize on it.

DW: Okay, good luck tonight, Hoagie.

Hoagie: 10-4.

Mike Joy: We'll run 334 laps around Texas Motor Speedway to complete the 500 mile distance, pit road speed is 45 MPH and you'll be on pit lane for fuel and tires around every 48 laps.

DW: Comin' down to green here, boys. Mr. Hamdon, Mr. Edd, play nice. BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY! LET'S GO RACIN' TEXAS STYLE, BOYS!

(START OF THE DUCK COMMANDER 500)

Mike Joy: Who's gonna lead the first lap? It's gonna be....

Larry Mac: Guy Hamdon, the 41 car. He took that lap by two-tenths of a second over Edd in the 4 car. Hamdon knows Edd has a faster car, he'll cede the position to him in the backstretch.

DW: Edd had the fastest car in both practice sessions on Friday, just missed the pole by 4 one thousandths of a second, he'll be a force to be reckoned with for sure.

Mike Joy: And take a look at rookie Dipper Pines, gentlemen! He started 35th, already up inside the top 20, bringing fellow rookie Marco Diaz in the 25 with him!

Larry Mac: Now they might not be teammates, Dipper Pines in a Michael Waltrip Toyota, Marco Diaz has that Hendrick Chevrolet, but they sure are acting like teammates right now!

Mike Joy: Yugi Moto brushed the wall in turn 3, he's fallen back to 22nd after starting 18th. There you see Joey Wheeler making his way by the 11 as 2nd place changes hands, that's Randy Cunningham, winner of the fall race in 2012, getting past Guy Hamdon. 12 laps on the board here in Texas, we'll go side-by-side and be right back. You're watching NASCAR ON FOX!

(Lap 38 - Caution 1)

Mike Joy: Eric Cartman, the race's slowest qualifier, was running 42nd, when this happened....

Larry Mac: Looks like he lost a right front tire on that 26 car. Might have shredded it, might not....

DW: He shredded the right front, guys. The entire right front side of the car is torn up. He's done.

Mike Joy: Pit stops coming up, we start with Chris Neville!

Chris Neville: Defending race winner Otto Rocket opting for 4 tires and fuel, they'll make a wedge adjustment to try and free the car up, 3 car's away! Jamie Little?

Jamie Little: Dipper Pines will pit out of 11th place, 4 tires and fuel, track bar adjustment complete and he's away! Matt Yocum?

Matt Yocum: Guy Hamdon, the polesitter tonight, reported in that his car is too tight on entry. They'll take a round of track bar out of the right front to try and rectify the situation. 4 tires and fuel for car 41 and Hamdon's away!

Mike Joy: Tommy Pickles - too fast entering; Yugi Moto nabbed for an uncontrolled tire; Marco Diaz - too fast entering, they'll have to restart tail end of the field.

Top 10:

1. Guy Hamdon (41)
2. Edd (4)
3. Otto Rocket (3)
4. Dipper Pines (66)
5. Hoagie Gilligan (2)
6. Randy Cunningham (48)
7. Nigel Uno (1)
8. Timmy Turner (20)
9. Ashley Armbruster (15)
10. Tristan Taylor (22)

(RESTART: Lap 44 - 6 caution laps)

Mike Joy: 44 laps complete this time by, green flag back out and they are already 3 wide heading into turn 2!

Larry Mac: That's not gonna work! That's not gonna work!

DW: Someone's gotta give here!

Mike Joy: That someone was Guy Hamdon! That allowed Dipper Pines to grab the lead!

(66 Team Communications)

Wendy: New Leader....66!

DW: And this is a big moment for young Dipper Pines, his first lap led in NASCAR Sprint Cup competition. I see nothing but good things for this young man.

Larry Mac: There you see his girlfriend, Pacifica Northwest, atop the pit box, cheering Dipper on.

Mike Joy: 2 drivers got nailed for speeding on pit lane during the last round of stops. For more on those penalties, we go to our FOX Sports NASCAR rules expert, Andy Petree.

Andy Petree: Thanks, Mike. Pickles and Diaz both got nailed for being too fast on entry. There are 7 timing sections on pit lane here at Texas. If you're over that 5 MPH grace period that NASCAR gives you, they will bust you, especially with the new Hawkeye system in place. Now, here's where the rule can be exploited. If your pit is within a certain scoring area, you can speed in that section all you want. Diaz's pit was in section 4, Tommy Pickles' pit was in section 6. They both sped in the section before their pit boxes. That is a no-no, that got 'em kicked to the back of the field for the restart.

(Lap 136 - Caution 2)

Mike Joy: It took us 92 laps, but now the caution's come out again, this time for debris in turn 2. There it is, it's a Coke bottle.

Larry Mac: And this caution's coming right out of a cycle of green flag stops. So the question becomes....to pit or not to pit?

Mike Joy: Survey says....no takers to pit road! 137 laps complete here in Texas, Dipper Pines is your leader, you're watching NASCAR on FOX!

(RESTART: Lap 140 - 4 caution laps)

Mike Joy: Ready to race again at lap 140, Dipper Pines leads as we CRANK IT UP!

(Crank It Up graphic)

(Lap 206 - Caution 3)

Mike Joy: SPIN IN THE FRONTSTRETCH! 25 CAR AROUND!

Larry Mac: That's our Daytona 500 winner, Marco Diaz in the NAPA car. Caution is out.

Mike Joy: 128 laps to go here in Texas, time to go up to Chris Myers and Michael Waltrip in the Hollywood Hotel for an AT&T Race Break.

(Hollywood Hotel)

Chris Myers: Thanks, Mike. 128 laps to go here in Texas, time for an AT&T Race Break. Michael, one of your guys is up front, trying to shock the world.

Michael Waltrip: That Dipper Pines is something else, Chris. I knew he was something special when I saw him run the Xfinity Series last season. After he nearly won the title, I knew I scouted the right driver for the 66.

Chris Myers: Working our 3rd caution of the race, our first one was on lap 38 when Eric Cartman blew out a left rear tire.

Michael Waltrip: This is what happens when you don't take care of your tires here at Texas. Bad decision making by Cartman, another bad finish in the works.

Chris Myers: Cartman has retired from the race, ensuing round of stops, Hendrick Motorsports drivers Tommy Pickles and Daytona 500 champion Marco Diaz get nailed for speeding coming on to pit lane. We've seen a lot of these penalties tonight, Michael.

Michael Waltrip: There you see Ashley Armbruster get busted on the last round of stops, as does Randy Cunningham, Joey Wheeler and Yugi Moto get nailed for uncontrolled tires. These pit penalties are gonna end up being killers here tonight.

Chris Myers: Dipper Pines has led the most laps, 106 of the 208 we have run so far. Just our 3rd caution of the race and only Eric Cartman has retired from the race. This has been an AT&T Race Break, now back to Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds.

(RESTART: Lap 213 - 7 caution laps)

Mike Joy: Closing in on 400 miles here in Texas, Dipper Pines leads 'em down to green and we're back to action in Texas!

DW: That 66 car is on fire! No one's been able to touch him!

Larry Mac: Once Pines gets into that clean air, forget about going after him! He'll be long gone!

Mike Joy: Battle for 4th place, that's Marco Diaz on Timmy Turner, he will clear the 20, bringing Tommy Pickles and Otto Rocket with him. Now Dudley Puppy has a million reasons to race tonight. If he wins, his sponsors, ACE Hardware and Stanley Tools, will donate $1,000,000 to Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

Larry Mac: Talk about comeback stories tonight, Mike, Puppy was one of the drivers nailed for an uncontrolled tire on a round of stops, fell to the tail end of the field; he's now up in the 7th position, looking strong as we get into the final 100 miles of this race.

Mike Joy: But he's got some ground to make up as he is 4.1 seconds back of race leader Dipper Pines. 112 laps to go here in Texas, you're watching NASCAR ON FOX!

(Lap 258 - Caution 4)

Mike Joy: 76 laps to go here in Texas, caution out for the 4th time as Timmy Turner spins in turn 4!

Larry Mac: Looks like he might have slammed the wall, possibly blown a right front tire as you see him pull into pit road.

Mike Joy: Money stops coming up! We start with Matt Yocum!

Matt Yocum: Final stop of the night for series champion Danny Fenton, just 4 tires and fuel for the 16 and he's away! Vince Welch?

Vince Welch: Tommy Pickles will make his final stop of the night, they'll also take on 4 tires and fuel and send the 24 on his way. Jamie?

Jamie Little: Marco Diaz is in from the 4th position, his team consists of the original Rainbow Warriors, 4 tires and fuel for the 25 and the rookie is away!

Top 10:

1. Dipper Pines (66)
2. Tommy Pickles (24)
3. Marco Diaz (25)
4. Otto Rocket (3)
5. Danny Fenton (16)
6. Hoagie Gilligan (2)
7. Nigel Uno (1)
8. Edd (4)
9. Randy Cunningham (48)
10. Dudley Puppy (19)

(RESTART: Lap 266 - 8 caution laps)

Mike Joy: 68 laps to go this time by, let's wake the neighbors and CRANK IT UP for you!

(Crank It Up graphic)

(Lap 306 - Caution 5)

Mike Joy: 28 laps to go here in Texas, caution out for the 5th time as Ginger Foutley slams the wall hard in turn 4. Let's show you the replay through our FOX X-MO camera.

Larry Mac: Looks like she was trying to defend from going a lap down to our race leader, Dipper Pines in the 66 car. Pines forced her a little too high, sent Foutley right into that outside wall.

Mike Joy: And Ginger Foutley is leaking oil everywhere! She's pulled into the garage, cleanup crews work on the track as it looks like we'll be under yellow for quite a while. Dipper Pines leads with 26 laps to go in Texas, you're watching NASCAR on FOX!

(RESTART: Lap 320 - 14 caution laps)

Mike Joy: Pines, Pickles, Rocket, Diaz, Fenton are your top 5 with 14 laps to go in Texas! Can the rookie Dipper Pines bring it home for his first career win? We saw it last year with Otto Rocket! Pines has set sail, Larry Mac!

Larry Mac: This is what we've been seein' from Pines all night long, Mike. Once he got into that clean air, he just disappeared from the pack. He's got 12, make it 11 laps to go. What he doesn't want to see right now is a caution flag. That would royally screw him over.

DW: He especially doesn't want to see the yellow coming to the white flag because that means a green-white-checker!

Larry Mac: ....or two....

Mike Joy: ....or 3! In NASCAR, if the caution comes out before the white flag, we'll get up to 3 attempts at a green-white-checker finish. They'll wave the green flag first, then the white flag, then the checkered flag. If the caution comes before the white flag, we try again. If the leader takes the white flag, the next flag ends the race. Pines is hoping the next flag he sees is the white flag. He's got 5 LAPS TO GO to score his first career Sprint Cup Series win! Lead is now 4 seconds between him and 2nd place Tommy Pickles!

Larry Mac: Smooth sailing right now for the 66, Mike. Only thing that would burn him right now, as we've been saying, is that caution flag.

Mike Joy: 152,000 fans on their feet! They're about to witness another first time winner in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series! Dipper Pines will come around to take the white flag! NEXT FLAG ENDS THE RACE! Lead is now 6 seconds between him and the 24! Does the 66 have enough fuel to make it? HALF A LAP TO GO! DIPPER PINES WILL COME OFF OF TURN 4, CHECKERED FLAG IN THE AIR AND DIPPER PINES SCORES HIS FIRST CAREER SPRINT CUP SERIES VICTORY! HE HAS WON THE DUCK COMMANDER 500 AT TEXAS!

(66 Team Communications)

Dipper: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Mabel: We aren't kidding you, bro-bro! YOU ARE A WINNER IN THE SPRINT CUP SERIES!

Stan: Well done, kiddo!

Pacifica: Tonight is your night, Dipper. You're in the Chase!

Dipper: Celebration's probably gonna have to wait. Just ran out of fuel.

Pacifica: Dipper, you can be such a dork!

Dipper: But I'm your dork, Pacifica. Hey, Wendy....tell your dad that I thank him for pushing the car to Victory Lane!
