NASCAR ON NBC

Rick Allen: Set to go racing in the Granite State! NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing for the 28th time in 2015, round 2 of NASCAR's playoffs - the Sylvania 300 - just about set to get underway here at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. Hi again, everyone. Alongside 3 time Loudon winner Jeff Burton and 2 time Daytona 500 winning crew chief Steve Letarte, I'm Rick Allen. Thanks for having us in for the race. Steve, we talk about this race being one of the wild cards in the Chase because it's almost always decided by fuel mileage. How big a role will fuel mileage play this afternoon?

Steve Letarte: You talk about this race being a big fuel mileage race, that couldn't be more true, Rick. This track is big on fuel mileage. You can't afford to miscalculate on fuel. Once you get to that final stop, you have to be absolutely sure that you can make it to the end, otherwise you'll have a huge hill to climb when we get to the big wild card of the Challenger Round next week in Dover.

Rick Allen: A big wild card upcoming as we head to Dover for the first elimination race next week. 300 miles due up for the stars of the Sprint Cup here in Loudon. Let's head down trackside.

Ken Squier: And now for the most famous words in motorsports to start the Sylvania 300, please welcome Senior Vice President of Special Lighting for Osram Sylvania, JULIAN DENCH!

Julian Dench: WOW, NEW HAMPSHIRE! I wish my dad could've seen this! DRIVERS! START! YOUR! ENGINES!

(43 850 horsepower engines fire up)

Jeff Burton: Our Sunoco Fuel Strategy of the race, a fairly short race here in Loudon as you see - 300 laps, just over 300 miles. 45 MPH down pit lane, 82-88 laps is the pit window, Steve. In all theory, this is a 3 stop race.

Steve Letarte: A 3 stop race here in Loudon.....but that's if you play your cards right. This race always comes down to fuel mileage and we'll see that trend continue today.

Rick Allen: Race 2 of the Challenger Round of NASCAR's playoffs set to get underway! Pace vehicle to pit road! Field now in the hands of Dudley Puppy, coming out of turn 4, GREEN FLAG IN THE AIR, WE'RE RACING IN LOUDON! AND PROBLEMS FOR THE 43! PHINEAS FLYNN'S AROUND! We have caution on lap 2!

(RESTART: Lap 9 - 7 caution laps)

Rick Allen: 9 laps complete this time by, GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR!

Jeff Burton: 3 wide through turn 2 for the lead! That won't work! Someone's gotta give here!

Rick Allen: NOBODY! Hamdon to the lead! But for how long? Here comes the 19 of Dudley Puppy back through 3 and 4! Doesn't clear him this time, here he comes again!

Steve Letarte: And he'll clear him this time by! Puppy back to the head of the field!

(Lap 44 - Caution 2)

Rick Allen: Blowing up is the 21 of Storm Shadow! Fluid on the track, yellow comes out again. 2nd one of the race, 44 laps complete here in Loudon. Pits are now open and here they come! We start with Kelli Stavast!

Kelli Stavast: Otto Rocket will come in from the 9th position here, Rick. 4 tires and fuel for the 3 and he's away! Marty Snider?

Marty Snider: 4 tire change for race leader Joey Wheeler, going for the Loudon sweep today. He's away! Mike Massaro?

Mike Massaro: 4 tires and fuel for our polesitter Dudley Puppy, they made a wedge adjustment to try and free him up, 19's away!

2. Hoagie Gilligan (2)
3. Joey Wheeler (18)

7. Ashley Armbruster (15)

10. Nigel Uno (1)

Penalty Issued: Otto Rocket (3) - TOO FAST ENTERING

(RESTART: Lap 48 - 4 caution laps)

Rick Allen: Otto Rocket tagged for TOO FAST ENTERING, he'll restart tail end of the lead lap in 30th position, GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR! We get the Sounds of Speed presented by Fastenal!

(Sounds of Speed graphic)

(Lap 158 - Caution 3)

Rick Allen: AND THE 30 CAR INTO THE WALL! CAUTION!

Jeff Burton: Looks like she blew a left rear tire. We're gonna take a look at this through our NB-See It and.....yep, blown left rear tire. Time to hit the pit lane, Ginger.

(RESTART: Lap 163 - 5 caution laps)

Rick Allen: 137 laps to go, GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR AND WE HAVE A CAR AROUND, IT'S THE 14 OF KICK BUTTOWSKI! Yellow comes out again, it's our 4th of the race here at Loudon, comes out here on lap 163 and while we're under yellow, we'll take some time to remind you that next week, we'll be in Dover for the first cut race in the Chase. Coverage begins Friday, 11:30 AM Eastern with Sprint Cup Series practice, then Xfinity Series practice at 2 PM Eastern. Xfinity Series qualifying at 4 Eastern, all on NBCSN, followed by Sprint Cup qualifying at 5:30 PM Eastern also on NBCSN. Then, Saturday Morning, 8:30 AM Eastern on CNBC, Xfinity Series final practice, Sprint Cup final practice at 11 AM Eastern, leading up to the Hisense 200 for the Xfinity Series at 3 PM Eastern over on NBCSN, then the AAA 400 on NBCSN, coverage begins 1 PM Eastern on Sunday.

(RESTART: Lap 169 - 6 caution laps)

Rick Allen: Let's try this again, 131 laps remaining in Loudon. GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR! Time for more Sounds of Speed presented by Fastenal!

(Sounds of Speed graphic)

(Lap 210 - Caution 5)

Rick Allen: OH! WICKED CRASH! The 10 of Cindy Vortex is around and she collects one of our Chasers, the 55 of Vince Lasalle!

Steve Letarte: And there's some of that energy absorption foam scattered across the track, Rick.

Jeff Burton: This race may need to be red-flagged because that foam is all over the place.

Rick Allen: Caution comes out for the 5th time today with now 90 laps to go here in Loudon.

Steve Letarte: And we're just outside of that window we talked about to make it to the end from here, Rick.

Rick Allen: Here they come down pit lane! We start with Dave Burns!

Dave Burns: Hopefully the final stop of the day for the 20 of Timmy Turner, 4 tires and fuel for Turner and he's away! Marty Snider?

Marty Snider: Service complete on the 88 of Kim Possible, just a 4 tire change for the 88 and she's down and away! Kelli Stavast?

Kelli Stavast: 4 tire change for Otto Rocket, no adjustments this time for the 3 and he's away!

Top 10:

1. Joey Wheeler (18)
2. Yugi Moto (11)
3. Timmy Turner (20)
4. Edd (4)
5. Otto Rocket (3)
6. Tommy Pickles (24)
7. Nigel Uno (1)
8. Matt Quinlan (6)
9. Tristan Taylor (22)
10. Ashley Armbruster (15)

(RESTART: Lap 221 - 11 caution laps)

Rick Allen: Our longest caution period of the race, 11 laps, now in the books. 79 laps to go this time by, GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR! Word from race control is that the restart is under review.

Steve Letarte: And this is the last thing, the absolute last thing Yugi Moto needed after that performance at Chicago last week.

Rick Allen: And there it is.....A RESTART VIOLATION ON YUGI MOTO! A devastating break for this 11 team with Dover looming.

(Lap 237 - Caution 6)

Rick Allen: Katara's around in turn 4 to bring caution out for the 6th time, 63 laps to go here in Loudon. We'll go NASCAR NONSTOP presented by Sonic.

(RESTART: Lap 243 - 6 caution laps)

Rick Allen: 57 laps to go this time around, GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR! 3 wide for the lead! Turner to the front with 56 to go and we have a blowup in turn 2! That's Spongebob Squarepants in the 51 car! Caution comes out again with 56 laps to go here in Loudon.

(RESTART: Lap 252 - 8 caution laps)

Rick Allen: 48 laps to go here in Loudon, GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR! Let's get the Sounds of Speed one more time!

(Sounds of Speed graphic)

(Lap 284 - Caution 7)

Rick Allen: And a game-changing caution comes out, 16 laps to go here in Loudon! It is for debris in the backstretch!

Steve Letarte: And that strategy you had going into today.....tear it up and throw it out the window because it is now gone!

Jeff Burton: To pit or not to pit, that is the question.

Rick Allen: Pit road none too busy with 15 to go. We go NASCAR NONSTOP presented by Sonic.

(RESTART: Lap 291 - 7 caution laps)

Rick Allen: This time by, there'll be 9 laps of racing to go here in Loudon! GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR! EDD TO THE LEAD! But can he hold it? Mike Massaro has a report for us. Mike?

Mike Massaro: Rick, during the last caution, I talked with Nazz Van Bartonschmeer, crew chief on the 4 and she told me that they are a lap short of making it to the finish on the fuel that they have if it stays green. They'll need at least another caution to make it from here.

Rick Allen: And that's devastating for race leader Edd to try and advance into the Contender 12 as he leads with now 5 laps to go here in New Hampshire! Can he make it? Will he run out? And can he stretch his lead over Timmy Turner enough in case he does run out of fuel?

Steve Letarte: And this goes back to what we've been saying about fuel mileage being key here at Loudon. This could prove to be a grave miscalculation on the part of the 4 team. With under 10 laps to go, this is the kind of mistake you can't afford.

Rick Allen: This time around, Edd will see the white flag! Next flag ends the race! ONE MORE LAP AROUND NEW HAMPSHIRE! The lead is 7 seconds between 1st and 2nd! Down the backstretch for the final time!

Jeff Burton: HE'S OUT OF FUEL!

Steve Letarte: EDD'S OUT OF FUEL!

Rick Allen: 4 CAR RUNS OUT OF FUEL IN TURN 4! Can he coast his way back? Here comes the 20 of Turner! Checkered flag will fly for TIMMY TURNER! HE WINS IN LOUDON!
