ABC?

Gary Thorne (voiceover): The Toronto Maple Leafs were one of the first franchises in the NHL. While success came early and often for the Leafs, Toronto has yet to win a cup in the modern era. That may soon change with a crop of young players in their arsenal, an ace between the pipes and a new coach....Peter Horachek. Can the pieces come together to claim the Leafs' first cup in over 50 years? They'll have to get past a team that has never won Lord Stanley's Cup....the St. Louis Blues. Led by their star, Timmy Turner, the Blues sit 3rd in the Central Division, only 2 points off of the Chicago Blackhawks. A win tonight would tie them with Chicago for the division lead with 36 to play. Can the Blues get one step closer to their first title? Blues/Leafs....the NHL on ABC IS NEXT!

(NHL on ABC 2000-2004 theme and opening)

NHL ON ABC

Gary Thorne: Better than 19,000 filing into Scottrade Center in St. Louis to see their hometown Blues in action against one of the most storied franchises in the National Hockey League, the Toronto Maple Leafs, right here as the NHL on ABC takes center stage! Welcome to St. Louis, everyone. Alongside Bill Clement, I'm Gary Thorne. We'll check in with Mike Milbury in a little bit. I hope your holiday season turned out well and we wish you and your teams all the best in 2015. Bill, the Blues began the New Year on a 7 game win streak. Tonight, they face a Maple Leafs team that's won 11 of 12, including 5 of 6 away from Air Canada Centre. This is just like when last we met, 2 teams on a tear meet on hostile ice, each going for a much needed victory.....what are the Keys to Victory for Toronto?

Bill Clement: For the Leafs to be successful, they need to slow down that potent first line of Turner, Tang and McBadbat. Combined, they have 94 goals between them. Once they get on fire, it's nearly impossible to cool them down. All they need to do is cause a mistake on the defensive end, whether it's a big hit or a turnover or a good clear and they're off to the races. Toronto just has to keep them in check and they might have a shot at winning tonight.

Gary Thorne: We'll get Mike Milbury's input a little later, first let's take a look at our officiating crew. We have 4 men with 80+ years of NHL experience between them working this game tonight. Kevin Pollock and Mike Furlatt are our referees, Trent Knorr and Mike Shewchyk work the lines. The off-ice officials are from the Arizona Coyotes and we are underway in St. Louis! St. Louis in their home white jerseys, Toronto in their road blue uniforms. St. Louis will work from left to right this period, Toronto will operate from right to left. A blown opportunity by Vicky Griffin in front of goal, puck is left for Turner. Timmy Turner backpedals towards the blue line, drops it off for Chester McBadbat. McBadbat will fire this one off the left pad of Dunbar, rebound left for Trixie Tang...SAVE MADE BY WILLIAM DUNBAR! He will cover it up, face off will take place to Dunbar's left. February 22nd, Hollywood's brightest stars converge to honor the year in film. Neil Patrick Harris hosts the Oscars - Sunday, February 22nd, 8/7 Central on ABC. Face off won by Trixie Tang. She'll fire from the top of the circle....SCORES! (St. Louis Blues goal horn) TRIXIE TANG WITH HER 30TH GOAL OF THE SEASON AND THE BLUES LEAD IT 1-0!

Bill Clement: Just a miscue on the part of the Maple Leafs' defense. Belpois was guarding Tang tightly, then he gets tied up by Vicky Griffin and this gives Trixie Tang the opening she needs to sneak the puck past Dunbar to give her team the lead.

(Later....)

Gary Thorne: Sissi Delmas gets nailed for charging at 16:44 of the opening frame, this will set up a Best Buy power play for the Blues, a team that's 3rd in the league when they have the man advantage. Bill Clement: No contest here, James has it! Looks like Gauthier's gonna get the instigator here, Gary.

Gary Thorne: Gautier gets the gate for instigating, power play coming up for the Blues when we come back. The National Hockey League on ABC will return after these messages and a word from our ABC stations!
