ABC?

Gary Thorne (voiceover): The Detroit Red Wings have always been among the elite teams of the NHL, a team where players like Lidstrom, Yzerman, Howe and Sawchuk have cemented their legends in hockey's most prolific city. But the balance of power has shifted cross country to Los Angeles, where the Kings have won 2 Stanley Cups in 3 years and look to continue their dynasty with a win over Hockeytown's heroes. Kings, Red Wings.....NEXT ON ABC!

(NHL on ABC 2000-2004 theme and intro)

NHL on ABC

Gary Thorne: And another sell out crowd has packed the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit for Red Wings hockey on Halloween night as tonight, their Detroit Red Wings take on the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings right here on the NHL on ABC! And a happy Halloween to all of you watching at home and around the world, alongside Bill Clement, I'm Gary Thorne. Welcome to the NHL on ABC. Bill, these Detroit Red Wings off to a fast start this season, 7-0-2 in their first 9 games. Question is, do you think they can keep this up?

Bill Clement: It'll prove difficult with their upcoming schedule, but they just might be able to handle the tasks at hand. The Red Wings have a young and promising core and a solid goaltender in Stacy Hirano. I pegged them as my preseason pick for the Stanley Cup and I'm sticking to it.

Gary Thorne: And about the Kings, on a 4 game losing streak heading into tonight. What do you think they have to do to snap that losing streak?

Bill Clement: They can't afford any unnecessary penalties. Remember, Joey Wheeler picked up a game misconduct last game against Pittsburgh which proved to be costly in that shootout loss. They need their snipers to score and they can't afford unnecessary penalties.

Gary Thorne: Just about set to get underway here, we take a look at our officiating crew, Tom Chimelewski and Dennis LaRue are the referees, the linesmen are Thor Nelson and Derek Amell, our off ice officials come to us from the Chicago Blackhawks. Puck is dropped and we are underway from Detroit! Gary Thorne, Bill Clement with you, Mike Milbury at ice level, we'll check in with him as the game progresses. This portion of the NHL on ABC is brought to you by Verizon Wireless, official wireless provider of the NHL. Garcia-Shapiro with a pass to Phineas Flynn, Flynn back to Johnson for a shot that doesn't faze Devlin, who drops it off to Wheeler. Pass of to Seto Kaiba is picked off by Van Stomm, Van Stomm to Candace Flynn, over to Jeremy Johnson, fires to Phineas Flynn...OFF THE POST! Tip in by Garcia-Shapiro is thwarted by Devlin and we have a whistle and a delayed call! Let's go down to Tom Chimelewski.

Tom Chimelewski: Kings penalty, #18, 2 minutes for hooking.

Bill Clement: This is exactly what the Kings needed to avoid as you see Joey Wheeler heading off to the box....you see on the replay, he tries to tie up Jeremy Johnson, #31, top of your screen...refs would have none of that and Wheeler goes off for hooking.

Gary Thorne: Joey Wheeler off for hooking at 1:58 of the 1st period. This is a Best Buy power play, face off is won by Garcia-Shapiro in the defensive zone. Shovels it over to Phineas Flynn in the slot, from point blank range, Flynn shoots.....SCORES! (Detroit Red Wings goal horn) PHINEAS FLYNN WITH HIS 13TH OF THE SEASON AND THE RED WINGS LEAD IT 1-0!

Bill Clement: The last thing the Kings needed on the penalty kill was to have a face off in their own zone. Garcia-Shapiro wins the draw, perfectly placed pass to Phineas Flynn and with that kind of range, Duke Devlin just had no chance. You don't always have to wind up with a big slapper to get it by the keeper.

Gary Thorne: Flynn from Garcia-Shapiro at 2:06 of the 1st period is our official tally, Garcia-Shapiro wins the draw, pass over to Jeremy Johnson on the breakaway....HE SCORES! IT'S 2-0, RED WINGS!

Gary Thorne: We're back here in Detroit, 2nd period about to get started between the Kings and the Red Wings. No carry over penalties or power plays this period. Let's get you up to speed, on ice for the Red Wings, it's Garcia-Shapiro with Johnson and Phineas Flynn, then it's Candace Flynn with Buford Van Stomm on defense and Stacy Hirano in goal. For the Kings, we see Rebecca Hawkins with Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood, Marik Ishtar is on defense with Mokuba Kaiba and Duke Devlin is in goal for Los Angeles. 2-0 Red Wings is our score as we are 1:30 into the 2nd period. Candace Flynn with a shot that goes off the left pad of Devlin and corralled by Garcia-Shapiro behind the net. Garcia-Shapiro narrowly dodges a check from Ishtar and floats the puck over to Van Stomm. Van Stomm will fire it off the helmet of Devlin, rebounded by Phineas Flynn...LANDS ON THE NET AND WE HAVE A STOPPAGE!

Bill Clement: Looks like Phineas Flynn's gonna get called for Delay of Game.

Gary Thorne: There's the call from Thor Nelson, Phineas Flynn gets 2 for Delay of Game, Kings go on the power play when we come back. The National Hockey League on ABC will return after these messages and a word from our ABC stations.

(NHL on ABC theme)

Gary Thorne: The NHL on ABC is brought to you by Staples - Staples has everything you need to MAKE MORE HAPPEN; by Nissan - Innovation that excites; and by GameStop - Power To The Players. Welcome back to Detroit, Kings about to go on the power play for the 3rd time tonight as Phineas Flynn heads to the box for delay of game. Let's take a look at the call here, Bill.

Bill Clement: This didn't look deliberate from our standpoint, refs saw otherwise, gave Phineas Flynn a deuce for delaying the game.

Gary Thorne: It's Phineas Flynn for Delay of Game at 2:02 of the period as the Kings go on their 3rd Best Buy power play of the night. Face off won by the Red Wings in the defensive zone, taken back by Hawkins. Hawkins winds and fires! Save made by Hirano and she'll dump it off for Garcia-Shapiro behind the net. 1:14 left on the PK for the Red Wings, Garcia-Shapiro will pass to Van Stomm and the Wings will make the switch, new pair coming out. Now it's Ferb Fletcher, Vanessa Doofenshmirtz on that 2nd PK line for Detroit. Puck picked up by Doofenshmirtz as defensive pairings change, Monty Monogram and Albert Dubois now on defense with 40 seconds left in the penalty kill for the Red Wings. Here's Fletcher on the attack, pass off to Monogram and back over to Fletcher. Fletcher with a shot, no dice there, rebound for Doofenshmirtz....SCORES! (Detroit Red Wings goal horn) A SHORTHANDED GOAL!

Vanessa: YEAH! I LOVE DETROIT! LET'S GET LOUD, HOCKEYTOWN!

Bill Clement: And they've gotten Duke Devlin to that number, that number teams need to score to chase him from the game. They've gotten Devlin to 3 with that shorthanded marker, if Devlin gives up another goal, they're gonna pull him, no question.

Gary Thorne: Doofenshmirtz from Fletcher and Monogram at 3:46 of the 2nd period. Face off won by Fletcher, pass back to Doofenshmirtz along the sideboards, Phineas Flynn back on ice, Kings power play comes to an end with just 1 shot on goal to their credit. Here's Flynn...first line returning to action, it's Garcia-Shapiro and Jeremy Johnson with Phineas Flynn out there now. Phineas Flynn centers it to Monty Monogram, rebound....SCORES! (Detroit Red Wings goal horn) JUST AS FLYNN GETS BACK FROM THE PENALTY BOX, HE COMES UP WITH HIS 2ND GOAL OF THE GAME! IT'S 4-0!

Bill Clement: And they're keeping Duke Devlin in! The Kings are keeping Duke Devlin in! I would've expected LA to replace him with Jean-Claude Magnum, but I guess coach had other plans!

Duke: Great....now I've got 'Hey Hey Hockeytown' stuck in my head!

Gary Thorne: Phineas Flynn from Monty Monogram at 4:52 of the 2nd period, face off won by Doofenshmirtz in the neutral zone and we have a penalty call, let's see who it's on. We go to Tom Chimelewski.

Tom Chimelewski: Los Angeles penalty, #29, 4 minutes for spearing.

Gary Thorne: That's Rebecca Hawkins getting sent to the box, a big 4 minute power play coming up for the Red Wings when we come back. The National Hockey League on ABC will return after these messages and a word from our ABC stations.

Detroit Red Wings - 4
Los Angeles Kings - 0

15:06 - 2nd Period

(return from commercial)

Gary Thorne: Welcome back inside Joe Louis Arena, 15:06 to go in the 2nd period as the Red Wings prepare to go on another power play. Red Wings, one of the best power play units in the league, they are 10/16 on the power play this season, 63% so far. Neutral Zone face off won by the Red Wings, puck taken in by Doofenshmirtz and passed off to Flynn, who'll take it into the defensive zone. Flynn's pass intercepted by Taylor and shoveled over to Gardner. Gardner tries to pass it out to Moto, but has it poke checked away by Vanessa Doofenshmirtz as the Red Wings start the breakout. We are a minute into this Red Wings power play, 6 minutes into the 2nd period, 4-0 is our score here in Detroit. This portion of the NHL on ABC is brought to you by Bridgestone - Official Tire of the NHL. Phineas Flynn in the slot, he'll take a shot....no dice there, rebound for Flynn....save made by Devlin and he'll cover up! We go down to Mike Milbury who's with Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter.

Mike Milbury: Thanks, Gary. Darryl, your Kings are on a 4 game losing streak, you're down 4-0 in the game, how do you plan on coming back from this?

Darryl Sutter: Well, our defense isn't where it has been these past 4 games. I know that, my team knows that and I've been working with Yugi, Joey and the Kaiba brothers to try and improve this team. We might not get it done tonight, but I know we'll get it done sooner rather than later.

Mike Milbury: Darryl Sutter still hopeful his Kings will right the ship soon. Gary?

Gary Thorne: Thank you, Mike. Original trio out on the ice. It's Johnson, Phineas Flynn and Isabella Garcia-Shapiro back on the ice trying to work this power play. Flynn with a pass to Monogram. He'll wind and fire! SCORES! (Detroit Red Wings goal horn) FLYNN WITH A GOAL AND ASSIST! MONTY MONOGRAM WITH JUST HIS 2ND OF THE SEASON AND IT'S 5-0!

Duke: I swear, if I hear 'Hey Hey Hockeytown' ONE MORE TIME, I think I'll explode!

Tristan: Welcome to Detroit, Duke.

(Later in the period)

Yugi: I PLAY MY SUMMONED SKULL!

Joey: GO, RED EYES!

Phineas: Nice try, boys! Engage hologram disruption!

Yugi: What's going on? MY SUMMONED SKULL'S GONE!

Joey: Same thing happened to my Red-Eyes!

Kaiba: It's that triangle-headed kid's watch! It's beaming a signal that's disrupting the holographic imaging projectors of our Duel Disks!

Phineas: NOW, JEREMY!

Gary Thorne: Jeremy Johnson alone against the keeper.....AND HE SCORES! (Detroit Red Wings goal horn) AND THE RED WINGS ARE RUNNING AWAY WITH IT! IT'S 6-0!

(NHL on ABC theme)

Gary Thorne: The National Hockey League on ABC is brought to you by Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - The tablet that can replace your laptop; by Discover - we treat you like you'd treat you; and by Budweiser - GREAT TIMES ARE WAITING, GRAB SOME BUDS. We welcome you back inside Joe Louis Arena in the heart of the Motor City, about to start the 3rd period of this one between the Red Wings and the Kings. Red Wings running away with this one by a score of 6-0 but the Kings will be on the power play for the first 4 minutes of the period as Vanessa Doofenshmirtz got 4 minutes for boarding at the end of the 2nd period. Let's reset things for you. The Red Wings have Johnson, Phineas Flynn, Garcia-Shapiro and Monogram on the PK with Stacy Hirano in goal who's just been lights out so far for the Red Wings between the pipes. The Kings send out Hawkins, Raptor, Underwood, Howard, and Marik Ishtar with Jean-Claude Magnum replacing Duke Devlin in goal. Devlin would be charged with the loss unless the Kings can turn things around this period and from the looks of things, it won't be happening, Bill, as we have a whistle for offsides against Detroit.

Bill Clement: Try as they might, the Kings haven't been able to solve the puzzle that is Stacy Hirano. They certainly have had their fair share of shots to get one past her, but the defense of the Red Wings is too strong.

Gary Thorne: Face off taken by Johnson in his own zone. Shots are 38-32 in favor of the Kings, score shows 6-0 pointing towards the Red Wings. Pass to the circle by Flynn, shot by Johnson is high and taken by Garcia-Shapiro! Garcia-Shapiro with a pass to Monogram, Monty Monogram on the wing looking for a lane, nothing open, takes it for himself. Halfway through the PK for the Red Wings, got 17:50 showing on the clock in this 3rd period. Monogram with a shot! Saved by Magnum and he'll cover for the whistle and a face off! Coming up next, we have the Sprint Post-Game Show. We'll take it to Times Square, where Stuart, Ken, Jamie and Barry will break down the game and take you through all the action in the NHL tonight. Then, except on the west coast, you'll see your late local news followed by 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' and 'NightLine'. On the west coast, you'll see Tim Allen in the hit comedy 'Last Man Standing' followed by 'Shark Tank' and '20/20'. 1:42 left on this power play for Los Angeles, puck won by the Red Wings as Johnson will take it off the draw. Flynn will wait behind the goal for his mates to set up and he'll start the break. 1:20 left on the Kings power play, clock showing 17:15 and counting left to play in the final period. We are at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Gary Thorne and Bill Clement with you with Mike Milbury at ice level, this is the NHL on ABC. Johnson takes the puck back from Underwood and starts back across center, down to 42 seconds on this power play, Kings have gotten 6 shots off with no luck so far. Here's Johnson with a shot blocked in front by Raptor, rebounded by Monogram, deflected off the right pad of Magnum and tipped onto the stick of Garcia-Shapiro. Red Wings go back to full strength, power play concludes as Vanessa Doofenshmirtz jumps back onto the ice. Garcia-Shapiro centers it to Doofenshmirtz, one-time shot....SCORES! (Detroit Red Wings goal horn) DETROIT JUST KEEPS POURING IT ON! IT'S NOW 7-0!

(Later....)

Gary Thorne: WE HAVE A SCRAP DEVELOPING AT CENTER ICE! WE HAVE A CATFIGHT AT CENTER ICE! REBECCA HAWKINS AND ISABELLA GARCIA-SHAPIRO HAVE DROPPED THE GLOVES!

Bill Clement: Oh man, did Rebecca do what I think she did?

Gary Thorne: That'll be a comment for the Post-Game Show, Bill. Hawkins just learned a valuable lesson....NEVER DROP THE GLOVES AGAINST ISABELLA GARCIA-SHAPIRO! They're both going off for fighting, Hawkins gets the instigator, Detroit gets a power play when we come back! The National Hockey League on ABC will return after these messages and a word from our ABC stations!

Detroit Red Wings - 7
Los Angeles Kings - 0

9:14 - 3rd Period

(return from commercial)

(NHL on ABC theme)

Gary Thorne: The NHL on ABC is brought to you by....Coca-Cola - OPEN HAPPINESS; by Target; and by Silverstar Ultra headlights from Sylvania - See brighter, wider and farther with Silverstar Ultra headlights from Sylvania. 9:14 to play in the 3rd period here in Detroit, Isabella Garcia-Shapiro and Rebecca Hawkins both got fighting majors, Hawkins got the instigation penalty, all coming at 10:46 of the 3rd period, which will bring up a Best Buy power play for the Red Wings. We got 9 minutes even left on the board now. Here's Flynn along the end boards. He'll dump this to Monogram for a shot....SCORES! 8-0, RED WINGS! RAISE THE ROOF, HOCKEYTOWN!

Bill Clement: And a big time defensive breakdown on the part of the Los Angeles Kings here. You see Rex Raptor, #19, coming up on the bottom of your screen. He leaves his assignment, he was assigned to cover Monty Monogram, leaves him to cover Phineas Flynn but gets there a little late, Flynn finds Monogram wide open and light the lamp again! Doesn't matter what the Red Wings do, the Kings have no answer.

Gary Thorne: Monty Monogram's 3rd of the year off the assist by Phineas Flynn comes at 11:14 of the 3rd period. Jean-Claude Magnum not faring better than his predecessor, Duke Devlin. Arm is up, we have a delayed call on the Kings as Jeremy Johnson is down!

Bill Clement: Keith Howard slammed Johnson hard into the boards that last shift, hope he's okay.

Gary Thorne: Whistle comes with 7:58 to go in the 3rd. Keith Howard goes off for boarding.....

Bill Clement: Looks like they're throwing him out, Gary.

Gary Thorne: HOWARD'S GONE! THAT'S A GAME MISCONDUCT!

Bill Clement: Well, he is gone with this game misconduct. Don't know how this could've happened but it did and Howard's sent to the showers.
