NBCSN?

Announcer: The NBC Sports Network welcomes you to the following presentation of the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Leigh Diffey: After a very exciting race last week in Long Beach, we head out to Alabama and the 3rd race of 2014, the HONDA GRAND PRIX OF ALABAMA! Welcome aboard. everyone. Leigh Diffey here alongside Wally Dallenbach and Steve Letarte, thanks for having us in for the race. Wally, we start with you. First road course of the season here at Barber Motorsports Park, we've been coming here since 2010, what will these drivers face as we get set to go green here today?

Wally Dallenbach: Leigh, this is a 21 turn course, you have to be on your toes at every turn. One mistake, you could be sent into the tire walls and that could possibly end your day here early. This is also a fairly short race, only 90 laps. That means we could probably get to the end on just 2 stops. Steve, how would you approach this race from a crew chief's point of view?

Steve Letarte: These cars only get about 4-5 miles to the gallon, I've got the pit window here at around 28-32 laps. You could stretch it to a 2 stop race here, but to be on the safe side, you'd have to go on a 3 stop strategy here, Leigh.

Leigh Diffey: First road course race of the new season set to get underway, let's go down trackside for the command.

Track Announcer: ARE YOU READY, ALABAMA?! Please welcome head coach of your Alabama Crimson Tide, NICK SABAN, as he delivers the most famous words in motorsports!

Nick Saban: ROLL, TIDE, ROLL! DRIVERS, START YOUR ENGINES!

(33 900 horsepower engines fire up)

Leigh Diffey: Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide gets us rolling here in Birmingham as we take a look at our Honda starting grid....NO PENSKE CARS in the top 10 starting slots! First of the Penske brigade is Todd Daring on the outside of row 4, he'll share the row with Timmy Turner and last week's winner, Phineas Flynn. Flynn is also our in-race reporter. Wally's gonna try and ring him up now.

(IN-RACE REPORTER: Phineas Flynn - 99)

Wally Dallenbach: Phineas, it's Wally Dallenbach in the NBC booth. You got me?

Phineas: Got ya, Wally. Welcome back to NBC!

Wally Dallenbach: Thank you, Phineas. You dominated last week in Long Beach, fans are saying that something....or someone motivated you to victory. Was that the case?

Phineas: I'm not gonna lie to you, Wally. We had a great car in Long Beach, we have a good car this week in Alabama and there was a little extra motivation in the pit box.

Wally Dallenbach: If I had to guess.....it was your girlfriend, Isabella.

Phineas: No comment, Wally.

Wally Dallenbach: (chuckles) In any event, good luck, Phineas.

Phineas: 10-4, Wally.

Leigh Diffey: Pace car pulls off, field now in the hands of Ish Taylor as the green flag flies and we are underway in Alabama! Taylor got pushed to the side by our points leader, Dan Kuso as Kuso takes the lead in turn 2!

Steve Letarte: Taylor got pushed into the grass on the initial start, got himself frieght trained rather quickly, he's back about the 5th or 6th position.

Leigh Diffey: About to lose more as he falls into the clutches of Timmy Turner in the 16 car!

Wally Dallenbach: On board here with Taylor, you see him on that Push to Pass, first driver to use that button today, as he tries to get 5th place back from his teammate, Ricky Cirfantes in the 41 car.

Leigh Diffey: Battle for the lead here on lap 3, Dan Kuso in the 9, Ash Ketchum in the 8, both Ganassi powered cars, Kuso on his Push to Pass button, trying to give himself an edge here. Lead is now 1 second between Kuso and teammate Ash Ketchum, looking a little father back in the field, Tommy Pickles in the 3 trying to snatch 8th from Nigel Uno in the 98.....

Steve Letarte: Give it to Pickles! He's gonna take teammate Randy Cunningham and Otto Rocket with him!

Leigh Diffey: 7 laps complete here at Barber Motorsports Park, Dan Kuso and Ash Ketchum lead as we go IndyCar Non-Stop presented by Verizon.

(IndyCar Non-Stop)

(Lap 24 - Caution 1)

Leigh Diffey: Back here in Alabama, first caution of the race is out for debris in turn 15, there it is....a spring rubber off of the 26 of Otto Rocket, that's the cause of our first full-course caution of the day. Field coming down pit road and to Kelli Stavast.

Kelli Stavast: Otto Rocket is way too loose in the right handers, nose cone adjustment on the 26, 4 fresh Firestone Firehawks and Sunoco race fuel, Rocket's away! Jon Beekuis?

Jon Beekhuis: Service complete on Randy Cunningham, 4 tires and fuel for the 12, they did an air pressure change to loosen him up and he's off! Marty Snider?

Marty Snider: 4 tires and fuel for race leader Dan Kuso, no adjustments to the 9 car, points leader is away! Kuso wins the race off pit road!

Top 10:

1. Dan Kuso (9)
2. Randy Cunningham (12)
3. Otto Rocket (26)
4. Ben Tennyson (10)
5. Phineas Flynn (99)
6. Tommy Pickles (3)
7. Ash Ketchum (8)
8. Ish Taylor (14)
9. Todd Daring (2)
10. Becky Botsford (27)

(RESTART: Lap 29 - 5 caution laps)

Leigh Diffey: 29 laps complete, green flag in the air, let's turn those volume dials up and hear the SPIRIT OF INDYCAR!

(Spirit of IndyCar graphic)

(Lap 52 - Caution 2)

Leigh Diffey: Green flag stops underway here in Birmingham, 46 laps complete here in the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama. Becky Botsford is in, so is Timmy Turner and our race leader! Dan Kuso surrenders the lead to come to pit road! Marty Snider?

Marty Snider: 4 tires and fuel for the 9 car, he will stil need a few caution laps to get to the checkers from here, Kuso's away! Kelli?

Kelli Stavast: Todd Daring gives up 4th position to come onto the pit lane, 4 tires and fuel for the 2 car and he's away! Jon Beekhuis?

Jon Beekhuis: 4 tires and fuel for the 28 of Alvin Seville, they'll all still need one more stop from here to the end. Seville's away and there's caution on the track, guys.

Leigh Diffey: TROUBLE, TURN 21! SQUAREPANTS, TEST, KAMIYA AND PINES ALL INVOLVED! Caution out for just the 2nd time today with just 38 laps to go here at Barber Motorsports Park for the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama. Our next race here on NBCSN won't be until after the Indy 500....June 7th, to be exact. We'll be at the Texas Motor Speedway for the Firestone 600K. That's a Saturday Night, June 7th, coverage begins with IndyCar Central at 7 Eastern, Firestone 600K set to go green shortly after 8:00 right here on NBC Sports Network.

(RESTART: Lap 58 - 6 caution laps)

Leigh Diffey: 32 laps to go this time by, green flag in the air and once again, Dan Kuso gets an excellent restart!

Wally Dallenbach: Restarts have been Kuso's forte so far this season. Yeah, I know we're only 2 races in, but if this 9 team can keep it up, we're gonna be seeing Kuso holding up that IndyCar championship trophy come October.

Steve Letarte: Battle for 4th place here, guys! Ash Ketchum in the 8, that's Kuso's Ganassi teammate, dueling Randy Cunningham in that Penske 12 car!

Leigh Diffey: Perennial IndyCar powerhouses duking it out with 30 laps to go, give the position to Cunningham. 12 car up to 4th, Ketchum back to 5th as Dan Kuso has checked out! Last time by, the lead for Kuso was 1.6 seconds between him and Otto Rocket. Go back another six tenths and you'll find another one of Kuso's teammates, Ben Tennyson in the 10 car, another second takes you to Randy Cunningham in the 12 and right behind him is Ash Ketchum rounding out the top 5. 26 laps to go here in Alabama, we go IndyCar Non-Stop presented by Optima Batteries.

(IndyCar Non-Stop)

(Lap 76 - Caution 3)

Leigh Diffey: SPIN IN TURN 6! It's the 14 of Ish Taylor, caution out for the 3rd time with now just 14 laps to go here in the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, 3rd race of the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season, cars on and off of pit road, we've got one more IndyCar Non-Stop coming up and we'll be with you all the way to the checkered flag! You're watching the Verizon IndyCar Series on NBCSN!

(RESTART: Lap 82 - 6 caution laps)

Leigh Diffey: Dan Kuso, Randy Cunningham, Otto Rocket, Timmy Turner and Phineas Flynn, your top 5 as we come to the restart. 8 LAPS TO GO IN ALABAMA AND KUSO GETS THE JUMP ON CUNNINGHAM!

Wally Dallenbach: And just like we saw at St. Petersburg 2 weeks ago, if you're gonna get the jump on Kuso, you're gonna have to get a better restart than him. Unfortunately for the field, they just can't quite get going fast enough.

Steve Letarte: Last time by, Kuso ran a record lap, his fastest lap of the race at a 63.34, six tenths faster than Randy Cunningham at a 63.94.

Leigh Diffey: 5 laps to go this time as teammates battle it out for 6th place. Ish Taylor in the 14 and Ricky Cervantes in the 41, both AJ Foyt cars swapping positions. Phineas Flynn sweeps by Timmy Turner for 4th place in turn 18 as he'll now set his sights on the 26 with just 4 LAPS TO GO! The lead now 2.1 seconds between Kuso and Cunningham as we have a spin in turn 6!

Wally Dallenbach: That's the 20 of Tommy Turnbull getting out of shape on that hard left hander, he's back underway.

Leigh Diffey: No caution, we stay under green, 3 LAPS TO GO!

Steve Letarte: Just remember, there is no green-white-checker finish here in IndyCar, so if we get a caution here, the race is over.

Leigh Diffey: And with 2 to go, there's the caution for Gumball Watterson spinning in turn 14, 4th full course caution of the race coming out as Dan Kuso takes the white flag behind the safety car. Kuso will pick up his 2nd win of 2014, dominating again just like he did in St. Petersburg. Cunningham will finish 2nd, Rocket finshes 3rd, Phineas Flynn goes home 4th and Timmy Turner will ride away with a 5th place finish as the twin checkers are out and DAN KUSO WINS IN ALABAMA!

(9 Team Communications)

Dan: That's 2, guys! Way to go!

Ben: You lucky son of a gun! Nicely done, bro! Catch you in Victory Lane!

Dan: 10-4. I'm bringing Runo with me, so.....be warned.

Ben: 10-4, Dan.

(Victory Lane)

Kelli Stavast: Dan Kuso, 3 races into the season, you already have 2 wins....how does this bode for your title hopes in 2014?

Dan: I'm feeling pretty good about this team we have here. We've got a great group of guys at Ganassi Racing, they've always been IndyCar guys....but I'm a tad worried about Andretti Autosport and that no good Otto Rocket. That cocky _________ son of a _________! He's gotten on my nerves! He needs to be knocked off his pedestal! He needs to be humbled. So....Otto Rocket.....you're goin' down at Richmond!

Kelli Stavast: Dan Kuso calls out Otto Rocket after yet another dominating performance and a win in Alabama.
